BACKGROUND

// Background / By initiating jazzplayseurope in dec. 2007, jazzwerkruhr widened its range of activities with a view to RUHR.2010, European capital of culture. jazzplayseurope is a longterm cooperation between local and regional networks, music initiatives, musicians’ collectives, festivals and venues all over Europe; coming together to create lasting links and networks to support and establish contemporary jazz in Europe. The aim of this farreaching network is not to put big names on big stages; instead it will aspire to establish a forum, laboratory and festival for Europe’s young jazz scene, providing the benchmark of a transnational subsidising scheme.
