jazzplayseurope
Since 2008, jazz initiatives from 6 neighbouring countries are joining forces under the umbrella of jazzplayseurope. The aim of this far-reaching network is to connect regional networks and up- and coming artists in order to establish regional jazz projects beyond borders. The result of the first two years of jazzplayseurope is impressive: about 20 bands from all of the initiatives have played concerts throughout the participating countries.
2nd jazzplayseurope-laboratory:
6 countries, 6 musicians, 4 days of trial & error and 7 concerts throughout Europe in 1 memorable concert tour.
The highlight of jazzplayseurope in 2009 was its first international laboratory band: 7 of the most promising musicians joined forces in Dortmund’s jazzclub domicil and made for one exciting pan-European jazz band. The European tour of this band was highly successful.
So successfull that this laboratory experiment will be repeated in 2010. This year, Belgium’s JazzLab Series, arts centre De Werf in Bruges and C-mine Jazz Genk will be co-producing this second edition. 6 young and talented musicians come from all over Europe to De Werf in Bruges to make new and exciting music. During 4 days, from 8 ’till 11 of November, they will be non-stop reheasing, get to know each other, experiment, play and perhaps quarrel to find a common musical language. The result of their creative explosion is guaranteed to launch an exciting programme, defying existing cliches. Everything’s possible—no restrictions apply.
The second jazzplayseurope-laboratory will next tour through Europe in November 2009.
If you want to catch a glimpse of the future of Europe’s jazz scene, don’t miss the concerts of the jazzplayseurope laboratory. Some of its musicians or even the laboratory formation itself might soon make a name for themselves among the most prestigious international festivals.
